Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for Corporations

Today’s workforce is confronted with many challenges. Aside from meeting work expectations (e.g., boosting productivity, enhancing job performance), individuals need to balance work-life issues (e.g., long commutes, caring for young children and ailing parents). These factors can give rise to ongoing stress inside and outside the workplace.

Indeed, mental health issues and substance abuse problems are major concerns for employers, and are leading causes of illness and lost work productivity in organizations worldwide2. Whilst the majority of these stressors are either preventable or modifiable, few employers have found successful strategies to reduce the negative effects of chronic stressors.

This gap can be filled by an EAP. When utilized as a first-line response to providing prevention, triage, and short-term problem-resolution services within an organization, EAPs can substantially contribute to workplace wellness and productivity.

Of course, the onus for improving employee satisfaction and well-being does not just rest with employers. Employees must also proactively utilize healthy workplace initiatives and find effective coping strategies to manage on-the-job stressors.
